Nowadays I have more time at my hand at the evenings, so I try to cook proper food. Unfortunately, supermarkets are not very useful in that sense, especially Alber Heijn! I cannot resist delicious ready meals (and there are some discounts on different ones each week) or fresh pasta's, so I end up eating packed soup, various pasta- and microwave-dishes. On the other hand, I really enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. But I simply choose the easy way of putting a dish to warm up.
To push myself to eat proper and cook more, I decided to get a vegetable/fruit-arrangement (Groentepakket in Dutch) from a biological supplier (here: http://www.proef.nu/proef-vitatas/ ). I pick it up once a week at the ecological supermarket in the neighbourhood. It has enough vegetables and fruits for one person for one week and I can see online what I will get each week. The cost is little higher than the regular supermarket, but definitely worth it.
What I like most about this arrangement is getting the vegetables I never bother myself to buy: Carrots, lettuce, fennel, cabbage, even Jerusalem artichokes. It encourages me to try new recipes and to be creative with what I cook.
I just made some pumpkins in the oven with some goat-cheese and walnuts. Absolutely delicious!
